Day 3 of 31 :: Love on Larkspur :: Kitchen Update

I hadn’t planned on blogging about #loveonlarkspur today… well, I hadn’t really planned what I was going to blog at all today.  Which is probably part of the problem that I am facing with being so sucky at blog posts!  Fail to prepare; prepare to fail… right?  Effing boy scouts.

Okay, BUT.  Let me start at the beginning… for those of you who don’t know… we purchased and GUTTED a new house.  We bought the worst house in a neighborhood that we absolutely love, and we’re making every square inch of it exactly the way that we want it.  Well… exactly the way that I want it, but that’s not a selfish comment, I promise.  The hubs has given full creative freedom to me because he really enjoys the way that I design, and he trusts that I will make sure that his needs are met in the new house too.  Minus an oversized recliner.  Not happening.  But he is getting a comfy couch, a huge TV that he can see from the kitchen, LSU themed wall paper, a massive shower with a bench, a beer fridge, and… a happy wife.  So… when I say that ‘we’ are doing all of this… please know that my baby daddy is completely on-board too.

Now that we’re all caught up… I had to go over to the house today… (well, I go over to the house everyday… let’s be real)… to get some lighting fixtures boxed up and shipped back to exchange for a different size, and when I walked inside I was blown away by the cabinet progress in the kitchen!!  It actually looks like a kitchen!!  After seeing the whole thing gutted down to the plumbing it was hard to imagine that it was ever going to become a room again, much less a gorgeous well-functioning kitchen!!

After seeing the space, I thought that I would show you guys part of the design board that went into choosing the finishes for the room!

Starting from the top left…

We are doing a center island that is almost identical to the one in the photo with a white marble waterfall countertop, drawer front storage, white shaker cabinets, and gold or brass cabinet pulls.

Moving to the top right photo…

We are using… GASP… red brick for flooring in the kitchen.  I know, I know.  There is a bit of controversy on this material, but I absolutely love the character, texture, and warmth that it will bring to a very white kitchen.  Plus, my soul belongs in the South.  And so do brick floors.  Brick floors and I go together like sweet iced tea and hot afternoons.

Bottom left…

The lanterns above the island in this photo are very similar to the ones we have going into the space, but the photo for the exact lantern made my mood board look too dark, so if you want to see the exact fixture, you can find it here.

Bottom middle…

This is very close to the backsplash that we will be installing.  I Instagrammed a photo of our backsplash here.  If you aren’t following along already… go ahead and hit follow while you’re there because I post several photos/videos of the progress of the house under the hashtag #loveonlarkspur and #fromthewindowstothewalls.

Bottom right…

As mentioned above, we’re doing white shaker cabinets, but some of those cabinets will be glass fronts.  I’m not fancy enough to own any pretty dishes, but you can bet your ass that I’ll fake some fancy-funk in order to fill those shelves with something lovely!

There will be a THIS kitchen table in the space, but I haven’t decided on a lighting feature to go above the table.  I need to wait to see how the lanterns look above the island before I decide if I want a chandelier, or something more subtle so as to not have competing lighting fixtures in the kitchen.

In order to keep me grounded a bit… because let’s face it… pulling photos off of Pinterest and shaking your tail feathers around the internet is much more delusional than actually making the space happen… so, to keep it real.  Here is a photo of exactly where we are at today.

Sooooo… what do you think!!??  Which parts do you love?  Which parts do you hate?  Is there anything you would add or take away?!
