Idyllic Desert Romance – A Styled Wedding Shoot

I was probably turning ten or eleven years old.  I had asked my mom to plan me a birthday party, but she said no.  In her defense, I bet I asked her to plan it on Friday and wanted it to take place on Saturday.  I’m kind of a procrastinator …fly by the seat of my pants kind of girl.  So, my mom told me no about the party.  In true, independent girl fashion, I asked if I could host the party myself.  She might have laughed… and then looked down her nose and said… “sure, do whatever you want, Jo.”  So I did.

Some of my friends came over the next day.  I think that it was Amber, Reina, Heather, my neighbor friend Jeni, Crystal, Ashley, and I *think* that we might have thought about inviting some of the Berrendo ES girls (Robin and Mandy), but given that it was so last minute they probably already had plans that Saturday.  They were always a little cooler than us anyway, but I’m sure that they are sad they missed it because it was the birthday party to outshine all other birthday parties.  I mean we had some games to play and a cake to eat.  What else could a girl ask for?  I remember pushing a golf ball across the grass in my backyard with my nose like it was yesterday.  We were, of course, completing an epic relay race that included holding said golf ball on a spoon, then pushing it across the yard with your nose, and maybe the race to the finish line was done three-legged style or something. But either way, it was epic.  But it only lasted about five minutes.  And then we were bored.  I begged and pleaded with my mom to let us take rides out into the pasture on the riding lawn-mower.  I begged silently in my head for her to not say no because the party would be a massive failure if I couldn’t think of something for my friends to do… and FAST!  After a LOT of coercion, she finally agreed and we spent the next several minutes riding a lawn mower that went all of 5mph.  Epic, I tell you!

Why am I telling you this jaw-dropping account of such a wonderful birthday party you might ask?  Because if you’re a wedding or portrait photographer then you now have the chance to attend yet another totally rad production by yours truly and my amazing wedding photographer friend.  Kristen, from Kristen Joy Photography, and I will be hosting a wedding styled shoot for WPPI this coming March!  We are embracing both of our romantic and whimsical styles of wedding photography and styling a shoot with an incredibly talented line-up of Las Vegas wedding professionals!  The shoot will take place in the Las Vegas desert and will have a dream-like aesthetic filled with gorgeous flowers, a beautiful tablescape, two sets of models donning classically romantic wedding attire, with some splashes of whimsical details.

As you can tell, my event planning skills have definitely improved since 1991-ish.
