You see, on June 6th we wed for the purpose of obtaining a permanent resident card. Not because my husband used me for citizenship (or so he claims), but because we incorrectly set our wedding date in order to re-new the visa he held at that time. So we went through the motions and got the paperwork filed on June 6th. I have scoured my house for a photo that I know we took that day; however, the photo is at the mercy of my disheveled and unorganized garage. Maybe I will come across it one day.
On October 22nd we had the wedding originally planned to be our first (and only) wedding. Now, for those who attended, you should remember the catastrophe that was our wedding photographer. Dubbed "Shrek" by the end of the night -- she had gained a reputation for being less than professional. I was young. Twenty-two, to be exact. I chose the photographer based on the fact that she was endorsed by the reception venue, and did not think twice about this decision. Thus, the photos from that day are horrendous!! They are the "Shrek" of wedding photos. Imagine out of focus group shots, poor lighting, and close ups of my face smashed next to my bouquet. Not fun. Not cute. Definitely not how I remember my wedding.
So... this leads us to "third time is a charm." I follow several photographers blogs; however, there are a select handful that I check everyday. Religiously. Gabriel is one of those photographers. I contacted Gabriel several months ago as he is a photographer that I IMMENSELY admire. He and his wife produce fantastic images that my camera could only dream to see. So I booked him. Booked him for not one shoot, not two shoots... but 3 shoots during the weekend. We did family shots, marketing shots for my website, and of course... new wedding photos. It was a weekend filled with chaos, but Gabriel and Carlie made it fantastic. The time we spent with them will always be something that I look back on as one of the stepping stones towards building my own business.
I'm not sure if Gabriel and Carlie know this, but I gained a vast amount of knowledge just by watching how they moved. How they shot. And how they organized the shoots. I got to ask a question here and there, but usually the response was far too advanced for my understanding!! {{laugh}}
Gabriel and Carlie have since (yes since last weekend) entered into the parenthood club with the debut of their little Lincoln Roe Davis. I might have to wait a little while longer for my photos due to his arrival, but I hope to God that my photos are the furthest thing from their minds at the moment.
Here is one photo that Gabriel posted on his Twitter page. I'm in love, and I can't wait to see more!!
